Is the goal of climate neutrality by 2045 still possible for Germany? In order to bring sustainable action and responsible decisions to the end consumer, companies must develop social-ecological transformations for their industries. Many companies have already set groundbreaking goals for this. Under the Sustainable Economy Summit These approaches were presented, analyzed and discussed over three days at the AXICA Congress and Conference Center in Berlin. The event full of solution strategies, innovations and social approaches ends today, December 3th.

Support from politicians and business associations

Under the patronage of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection with patron Dr. Robert Habeck, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, 400 guests from various sectors took part in the Sustainable Economy Summit from December 11th to 13th. In addition, the Sustainable Economy Summit was supported by the German Federal Environment Foundation and a group of 13 transformative business associations.

Sustainable economy in all sectors

In addition to politics, personalities from retail, technology, furniture companies and cosmetics brands were also in demand. Kerstin Erbe, the managing director of the drugstore dm, advocated in her presentation for a consistent supply chain law and the associated transparency. Small companies and start-ups were also given a platform to present their approaches to sustainable transformation. Jerome Cochet, Co-Founder and Managing Director of goodcarbon, spoke about sustainable transformation paths and concepts for climate transformation.

Cross-sectoral subject areas

The subject areas were just as broad as the participating industries and personalities: In addition to lectures on the financing of social-ecological transformation and regenerative economics, attention was also paid to the topic of generative AI for environmentally friendly tourism and new work. Start-up pitches further rounded off the contemporary topic areas. Robert Habeck is also aware of the cross-sectoral urgency for greater sustainability: “Whether accelerating investment projects, more efficient use of resources or increasing and maintaining acceptance of sustainability measures – politics, business and society must meet all of these challenges together.”

Germany for sustainable business

There is clear agreement that sustainability changes are needed across all areas and sectors, not just this year or next, but forever. The Sustainable Economy Summit says it will hold its event every two years from now on. This creates a regular event in which companies from a wide range of industries with different needs can pave their way towards sustainability. Yvonne Zwick, chairwoman of BAUM, the network for sustainable business, also has high hopes for the event. “I firmly believe that the Sustainable Economy Summit will send a clear signal to the entire country about how constructively we can advance sustainable business together. The solutions are all there. Let’s work together to ensure that they are no longer overlooked!”
