Vegan motivation: Mia from heylilahey explains how the Veganuary challenge is done

Influencer Mia Marjanović is an inspiration for a sustainable lifestyle and a true vegan motivation. Here are her insider tips for vegan beginners


Mia Marjanović is with her blog heylilahey a successful influencer in matters of fair fashion, sustainability and mindfulness. Since 2010 the 30-year-old has shared her lifestyle for conscious consumption with her social community. A six-month shopping ban was an important step for the Berlin resident.

At the beginning of this year, Mia showed what the "Veganuary Challenge" is all about. It is practically a trial month for being vegan, coincidentally happening in January (Vegan + January) as the month is known to be the best time for change and good resolutions. For anyone who has always wanted to try it out, she gave tips for a month in order to help vegan beginners to get started, with no long-term commitment and without a complete change of life. She has thereby given a true and easy vegan motivation.

Mia tells us what her vegan motivation is and which challenge inspires her again and again 

I live vegan because it is the most sustainable form of nutrition for the climate, biodiversity and environmental protection. In addition, it just clicked for me. To me, all animals are the same, whether dog or pig, I would not want to kill and exploit any.

If people only eat vegan fast food or get to determined on exclusively sticking to clean foods, they get too stressed - which is both not beneficial. A happy and colorful balance is important - the topic of healthy or supposedly unhealthy doesn't matter to me. For example, I personally like to eat vegan junk food or soul food every now and then. In return however, I really enjoy salad.

The main ingredient for vegan dishes

For almost every vegan dish, yeast is my favorite ingredient. The vegan cuisine is very versatile, which is why good basic ingredients make a big difference, such as fresh vegetables and fresh herbs. I always get my inspiration from the challenge of veganizing the favorite non-vegan dishes of my friends and family. It's a nice challenge.

For me, vegan life also includes an all-round sustainable lifestyle

My biggest challenge is to travel less. Fair fashion is also an important topic for me. My favorite fashion labels are Jan'n June, Armedangels and Jyoti - fair brands.

I also rely on natural cosmetics: One of my secret beauty hacks is to avoid drying alcohols and perfume, and also to use sunscreen every day.
